Prayer
St. Therese of Lisieux, whom we know as the “Little Flower,” had this to say about prayer –
Christian prayer comes in many forms.
It may be spontaneous, made up as we go, extemporaneous. We pray with our liturgy, using the same words that our fellow believers use, all over the world. We pray with the Bible. We may pray in the Spirit, in adoration of the Holy Eucharist, in song, and as quiet meditation. We pray with devotions, with rosaries and chaplets. We can pray with our works of mercy. Justice, and peace. We pray in exuberance and laughter; in sadness and deep sorrow.
We pray morning, noon, and night, sanctifying each moment of the day – grace for our meals, protection for our children and loved ones, success for our ventures. We pray in silence, in the anguish of a heart that is in need of healing, and in the hope of peace and joy.
